Mrs. Janice Carpenter Miller, 73, of Green Creek, N.C., began eternal life Saturday, Dec. 10, 2016.
Mrs. Miller, born Nov. 24, 1943, loved her family especially spending time at ballgames watching her grandchildren. She was the daughter of the late Tillie Carpenter and Napoleon Carpenter. She was a graduate of Carver High School and Livingstone College, and was a retired teacher of the Rutherford County School system. She was a proud member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) Sorority, the Busy Matrons Leisure Hour Club (BMLH), a Sunday school teacher and member of the Missionary Society at Zion Grove A.M.E Zion Church, and mentor to many in the community.
She is survived by her husband, George Miller, Jr.; daughter Tarah Simmons and husband Aaron, son George Miller, III (Trey) and wife Stephanie; one brother Napoleon Carpenter, Jr.; four grandchildren Aaron Simmons, II (AJ), Amber Miller, Cameron Simmons, and Aaliyah Miller. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins who she loved dearly.
A memorial service will be held at Zion Grove A.M.E. Zion Church, 5620 Pea Ridge Road, Rutherfordton, NC 28139 with Pastor Patricia Gainer officiating on Friday, Dec. 16, 2016 at 11 a.m. Family will receive friends at 164 Aqua Drive, Forest City, NC 28043.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to Hospice of Rutherford County.
