Proceeds from book sales to benefit Saluda Community Land Trust

“Laurel Falls” is the final book in the Benjamin Drum trilogy set in the North Carolina Appalachians. Local author Henry Mitchell, whose first two novels have been very well received, has donated all of his royalties to support protection of this beautiful area, through the Saluda Community Land Trust.

Now living in Saluda, Henry Mitchell says, “The trilogy (‘The Summer Boy,’ ‘Between Times’ and ‘Laurel Falls’) is set in a fictitious landscape bearing a marked resemblance to Transylvania, Polk, Buncombe, Henderson and Madison counties in the North Carolina Appalachians. Saluda is about as close as one can get to Robberlee’s town of Beaverdam in the Laurel.”

The enchanting tale follows the life of Benjamin Drum as he steps through times and worlds in the mountains, capturing the beauty and mystery of the area as well as of the people who live there. “Laurel Falls” brings the trilogy home to the mountains as it continues to follow the families along Sorrow Creek in mythical Marshall County.

The novels have been written over several years and Mitchell says, “Benjamin Drum has kept me company all this time. With ‘Laurel Falls,’ readers will know as much about him as the author knows. At present, I have no plans to write more about Ben, but he has a way of turning up when one least expects, so who can tell when we might see him again?”

Mitchell’s novels have received many five star reviews on both sides of the Atlantic. “The Summer Boy” is also now available in audio and “Between Times” and “Laurel Falls” will follow in audio in the coming months.

Mitchell loves the mountains and foothills of the southern Appalachians and his family has lived here for eight generations. He lives with his wife, Jane Ella Matthews, a Feldenkrais practitioner, and their spiritual guide and German Shepherd, Simon.

“Laurel Falls” launches on Nov. 16, and is published by Alfie Dog Fiction, which also carries Mitchell’s short stories on its website, alfiedog.com. The novel can be purchased as a paperback or eBook either from the publisher or other leading booksellers.
