For the second concert of the 2016-17 season, the Tryon Concert Association will present St. Martin in the Fields Chamber Ensemble Tuesday, Oct. 25, at 8 p.m. at the Tryon Fine Arts Center.
The renowned Academy of St. Martin in the Fields was formed in 1958 from a group of leading London musicians led by Sir Neville Marriner. The chamber ensemble was created in 1967 to perform the larger chamber works in the genre. The group consists of eight players drawn from the principal players of the full orchestra.
Their recordings are many and can be found on the labels Phillips Classics, Hyperion and Chandos. Quoted in The Washington Post, “Their sound is sweet and pure, their ensemble work airtight.” And Opus One, “Their sound is vivid: bright and highly saturated.”
The chamber ensemble has toured across Europe, North and South America, Australia and New Zealand. Their tour in North America this year includes the US and Canada. The ensemble will perform to a sold-out audience in Toronto just before coming to Tryon on Oct. 25. Their performance in Tryon will include works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Richard Strauss and Franz Schubert.
Season tickets are available by mail or online. Contact us at tryonconcerts.org or P.O. Box 32, Tryon, NC 28782.
