Tryon Fine Arts Center’s Exhibit Committee is pleased to announce their

upcoming exhibit featuring a number of Tryon’s motion picture connections. The exhibit will be open to the public on Saturday, Oct. 8, just in time for the Tryon International Film Festival.

There will be an opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14. This will coincide with arts events at other Tryon arts organizations, including Tryon Arts & Crafts, Tryon Painters & Sculptors and the Upstairs Artspace.

Featured are scriptwriters Bill Kerby, Coleman Hough and F. Scott Fitzgerald.  Fitzgerald, like his noted novelist compatriot, William Faulkner, did stints in Hollywood writing movie scripts.

Actors include film stars David Niven, “Lefty” Flynn, Joyce Grenfell (the Lucille Ball of Great Britain and daughter of Nora Flynn), Zachary Scott, Patti D’Arbanville, Katherine Alexander, and Cameron Fitch. These folks were either frequent visitors to town or long-time Tryon residents.

Tryon’s theatrical stars date to William Gillette, actor, producer, director and writer.  He was the Stephen Spielberg of his day and was the creator of the stage and film manifestations of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes.

TFAC’s exhibits are free and open to the public. Hours are Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.  For more information, call 828-859-8322.
