White Oak embraces Active Aging Week

Established in 2003, Active Aging Week is an annual event held the last full week of September leading up to Oct. 1, the International Day of Older Persons. The week  was initiated by the International Council on Active Aging to give as many older adults as possible the means to experience wellness activities and exercise in a safe, friendly and fun atmosphere.

In 2016, Active Aging Week encourages participants to “Explore the Possibilities.” Wellness director Barbara Womer, who submitted the winning theme for this year’s campaign, explains that at her senior living community, Elim Park in Cheshire, Conn., they foster a “Why not?” attitude. She believes Active Aging Week is a perfect time for everyone to consider the possibilities with an open mind.

White Oak Village of Tryon is embracing the theme “Explore the Possibilities” by hosting the White Oak Games from Monday, Sept. 26, through Friday, Sept. 30. Contests will include walking, bocce ball, a bridge tournament, Wii bowling, and a Pub Trivia tournament. Medals and prizes will be awarded.
