Saluda Living in Place (SLIP), a new concept in Saluda, which is aimed at helping seniors stay in their own homes as they age, is sponsoring free health screenings and free flu shots on Thursday, September 8, from 8 – 11 a.m. at the Saluda Senior Center, 64 Greenville Street in Saluda.

Wellness on Wheels from Park Ridge Hospital will be offering free health screenings in the WOW van in the Saluda Senior Center parking lot. This is an opportunity to have cholesterol, lipids and glucose, blood pressure, body composition and bone density testing. Fasting is preferred for blood testing but not mandatory.

Walgreens Pharmacy, in partnership with The Free Clinics, will be giving free flu shots for ages 14 and older inside the Saluda Center. This is the perfect opportunity to get your flu shot in Saluda before flu season starts. If you have insurance, bring your insurance card, but shots will be free for everyone.

Healthy snacks and drinks will be available after you are finished, and representatives from the Polk County Library Senior Services, Polk County Transportation, the RUOK program from the Polk County Sheriff’s Department, Polk County Dental Health, the Saluda Senior Center, and many other groups will be there to share valuable information.

Please don’t let this opportunity pass you by. Mark your calendar now for September 8 for your free wellness screenings and your flu shot.

By enhancing the lives of seniors living in place through access to services and health care, entertainment, opportunities for education and social activities, and opportunities for volunteering, we can create a vision of hope for our seniors and strengthen our community.

If you have questions or need transportation, please contact Edie Campbell at 828-243-0734 or becampbell@charter.net by September 5.
