The two teams raced back and forth the entire night, each team exchanging momentum time and time again.

But it was Polk County that finished this race with a win.

The Lady Wolverines, with full use of coach Mitch Davis&squo; entire bench, wore down the Lady Cardinals and pulled out a 61-51 victory.

Landrum started the game fast with Victoria McDowell stealing a Polk dribble. McDowell flashed down the court for an easy lay in.

And after two Jordan Corn free throws, the Lady Cardinals were up 4-0. However, Kiki Miller and Kaitlin Franks responded for the Lady Wolverines to silence the early cheers from the crowd. Miller snagged a rebound and put it back up for two. Franks followed with a two-pointer of her own.

But on this night, Franks wasn&squo;t going to be too familiar with two point baskets.

Franks was on fire and her three-pointers were the force behind the Lady Wolverine machine. Franks shot 50 percent behind the three point line and all of those threes came at big moments in the game.

Her first three put Polk up 16-9 in the first quarter. Landrum, however, outscored Polk 6-1 in the final minute of the first quarter and were only down 17-15.

The second quarter began with a three by Franks to give the Lady Wolverines some breathing room.

After some back-and-forth play, the scoring ended much like it began for Polk. Franks hit a three and Miller followed with a layup. Polk held a 33-24 lead at half.

The Lady Cardinals came out of the lockerrom energetized to start the second half. Landrum scored three straight baskets to pull within three. But again the combo of Franks and Miller stalled the run. Franks hit her fourth three and Miller added another two.

&dquo;I haven&squo;t been shooting like that all season,&dquo; Franks said. &dquo;I don&squo;t know what happened.&dquo;

The Lady Cardinals pulled to within five points by the end of the third quarter at 43-38.

The depth of the Lady Wolverines, however, sparkled in the fourth quarter.

&dquo;Part of our game is to wear the other team down and that&squo;s what happened tonight,&dquo; Polk coach Davis said.

It wasn&squo;t all smooth sailing in the fourth quarter though. The Lady Cardinals took the lead for the first time since the opening minutes on two Kelly Mullins&squo; free throws with 4:59 remaining.

Down 46-45, however, the Lady Wolverines turned it on. Franks hit another timely three to put Polk back out front. Denise Edwards followed that three with five straight points. Miller scored a layup with 2:40 left to put Polk up 55-46. Miller scored six points down the stretch for the Lady Wolverines. Miller had 16 points and 13 rebounds. Franks added 17 points. Denise Edwards had 15 points. Kayla Byrd and Randa Godsey had four points for Polk. Brooke Campbell scored three and Toya Twitty added two points.

For Landrum, Kelly Mullins had 16 points, Jordan Corn had 15 points and Victoria McDowell had 12.

&dquo;Overall the girls didn&squo;t quit,&dquo; Anderson said. &dquo;They just made some careless mistakes.&dquo;
