Orval Alexander Bloom was born October 14, 1915 in Tyrone, Pa. He was the son of the late Harold and Ora Gibbony Bloom. Orval was raised in Reedsville, Pa. A graduate of Carson Long Military Academy, he also attended Philadelphia Textile Institute. He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Steinbach Bloom. He was the last member of his immediate family.

After retiring from G.E. in Geneva, N.Y., Orval had a frame shop in Geneva. Orval and Jo moved to Tryon, N.C. after that.

Orval was an amazing friend to all people and pets. A fine husband that cared for his wife while caring for her brother and sister long after his wife’s passing.

Orval was a longtime supporter of the Boy Scouts of America as well as an active member of Kiwanis up until recently. He also built and installed bluebird houses.

He remained a cyclist into his eighties when the Foothills Animal Shelter was built in Columbus, N.C. Orval assisted with funding as an active board member and kept all the grounds mowed and trimmed with a tractor and tools given to him by the facility.

A hearty laugh and a twinkling spirit brought all the best brought all the best forth in Orval. We all were made kinder simply by knowing him and having him as a friend.
