The Tryon Riding & Hunt Club is pleased to announce the recipients of its 2016 academic scholarships. Seven scholarships totaling $10,000 were administered and funded by TR&HC. A separate $1,000 scholarship, created by TR&HC in 1982, continues to be funded by TR&HC and administered by the Polk County Community Foundation.

TR&HC’s scholarships were created to honor the organization’s mission from 1925: to support our area’s general well being and preserve its equestrian traditions. These scholarships are awarded to students who combine academic excellence with involvement in equestrian activities, whether as participants or as volunteers for local equestrian events or organizations.

A review committee made up of Tara Boyce, Digit Laughridge, Margaret Freeman, John Vining and Gerald Pack reviewed all applications and interviewed applicants before making recipient recommendations.

For the second year, TR&HC’s scholarship committee also administered the awarding of a $2,000 scholarship funded by Tryon Equestrian Foundation, the charitable arm of the Tryon International Equestrian Center’s ownership group.

TR&HC Scholarship Winners

• Emaly Allison, a graduate of West Henderson High School, who will be in her second year at Emory & Henry College in Virginia.

• Maren Daniels, a graduate of Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy, who will be attending Maryville College in Tennessee.

• Harrison Fisher, a graduate of Polk County High School, who will be attending North Carolina State University.

• Samantha Haase, a graduate of Polk County High School, who will be attending UNC Chapel Hill.

• Abby McCraw, a graduate of Boiling Springs High School (S.C.), who will be in her second year at North Greenville University (S.C.).

• Keleigh McMurray, a graduate of Polk County High School, who will be attending USC Aiken.

• Shelby Ritacco, a graduate of Brashier Middle College Charter High School, who will be in her fourth year at USC Upstate – Mary Black School of Nursing.

Tryon Equestrian Foundation Scholarship Emma Jameson, a graduate of Oakbrook Preparatory School, who will be attending Converse College.
