It’s high school football without the “Friday Night Lights,” tackling and a few other typical components, but Landrum High’s football team’s two seven-on-seven exercises this week (July 12 and 14) give Cardinals’ coaches a chance to see what their players can do.

Both days featured passing and catching drills and yard gains against players from nearby teams. They also featured players working hard in warm, humid conditions, beginning at 9 a.m., and ending just past noon, to avoid the worst of the heat.

On Tuesday, July 12, the drills included players from Chapman, Chesnee, Broom, Powdersville and Thomas Jefferson. Third-year head coach Jason Farmer and his staff kept players running briskly on the field.

As the name suggests, each mix featured seven players from each team, with two teams’ players going against each other at the same time, in two different directions on Cardinal Stadium’s playing field. Pass interceptions, and failing to score in four plays, turned the ball over to the other team.
