One person was shot and killed by a police officer after an undercover operation in Landrum went wrong, according to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office.
The shooting occurred on Bird Mountain Road near Landrum Friday evening, July 1.
Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright said he was called around 7 p.m. and said during a news conference all the officers are fine and he feels from a quick glance that the shooting was justified.
He did not release any names of the officers involved or of the suspect, nor the exact address, stating that family members still needed to be notified.
Wright said that the suspect was armed and pointed a gun at a deputy and that no one else was injured.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is investigating.
