Columbus plans music-filled Fabulous 4th Festival

Town gearing up for car show, Sons of Liberty Riders, food, kids rides, fireworks and more

The Columbus Fabulous 4th will be held on Monday, July 4th. The festival will offer tons of music and entertainment for everyone this year! The Fabulous 4th committee has planned many performances and events for the whole family and all types of interests. The day is filled with music, kids games and rides, food, crafts, a car show, Sons of Liberty Riders and much more!

The 4th of July kicks off at 10 a.m. with the opening ceremony which includes the presentation of the colors by the Polk County Honor Guard followed by the National Anthem sung by Anita Williamson.

The stage will be filled with local community talent beginning at 10:10 a.m. with Patrick Ballard performing guitar blues, patriotic songs and banjo tunes. At 11 a.m. Joyful Noise, a family youth Gospel group from Sunny View will perform.

At noon, the Fabulous 4th celebration will have an hour of veterans’ events to honor our servicemen and women. The American Legion and VFW of Columbus will host the hour and provide information and recognition for all veterans.

At 1 p.m. Michael Crisp will sing and play guitar to your favorite oldies and contemporary music.

The Antique Car Show will run from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Gibson St. adjacent to the courthouse. The event is sponsored by the GSM/RLDC car club.

Kids Games will be set up on the lawn of Stearn’s gym from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The family fun and games is sponsored by Cross Roads Baptist Church.

The amusement rides will be operating on Stearn’s Gym lawn from Saturday through Monday July 4th.

Sons of Liberty motorcycle riders will be parked in front of the House of Flags on July 4th.

Bands will begin at 2:30 p.m. and play through 9:45 p.m. The stage will be filled with musicians and bands of all shapes and sizes playing a variety of blue grass, blues, country, rock, and originals to add to the festivities. The fireworks will round out the day at 9:45 p.m. Come out and share in the fun at the Hometown 4th of July in Columbus!

Band Bios

Patrick Ballard:

Patrick Ballard, the Guitar Blues man, will perform blues and banjo songs. You will hear the sounds of Jimmy Reed, Fred McDowell, Lightning Hopkins, John Lee Hooker, Leadbelly as well as his original compositions.

Joyful Noise:

Joyful Noise is a family based, Southern Gospel group from Sunny View, N.C. Their biggest desire is to spread the gospel through song. They enjoy worshipping at their home church, New Hope Baptist, located in Marietta, S.C. with Pastor John Parker. They believe in old-fashioned singing, praying and preaching! The group is made up of family members who are in their teens and 20s.

Mike Crisp:

Mike will be playing along with his own musical recordings of favorite songs and tunes from the ‘60s and 70s. The songs are oldies but goodies and a lot of fun to listen to and hmm along.

New 5 Cent Band:

The blue grass band, New 5 Cents, began playing together in 2010. They play a variety of new and standard bluegrass music, with some singer/songwriter and country ballads mixed in. Members of the band include Richard Jolly on guitar, Brett Setzer on banjo, Russ Jordan on mandolin and Billie Jordan on the upright bass.

Motherlode:

Motherlode recreates the sounds of the classic ‘80s rock and roll. They feature a variety of band member vocalists to bring out the best in each hit.

Crescent Moon Blues:

Crescent Moon Blues, featuring Red Dog Towery, an accomplished guitarist, and the dynamic vocalist, Teresa DeGeer, was formed in 2011. This accomplished blues duo has banded together with two incredible musicians, Garry Segel (harmonica, guitar and vocal) and Michael Fillppone (bass) to creat a sound of unique blues, rock and jazzy swirl.

Loaded Toad:

Loaded Toad is a cover band that formed in 2011. If you enjoy The Allman Brothers, Marshal Tucker, Bob Seger, ZZ Top and Lynyrd Skynyrd you will enjoy Loaded Toad! Chris Powell is on guitar and vocals, Joe Frady on guitar, Randy Simpson on bass and Johnny Edney on drums and vocals.

Silver Travis:

Sliver Travis has been playing to regional audiences for many years. They feature good ol’ southern rock, classic rock, blues and originals to round out the mix.
