Brown signs with Western Carolina’s track and field program

Polk County senior Tameeia Brown signed a national letter-of-intent Thursday with Western Carolina University’s track and field program.

Present for the signing in the Polk County High School library were Sharon Brown, Tameeia Brown, Timothy Brown, Polk County athletic director and assistant principal Brandon Schweitzer, head track and field coach Alan Peoples, assistant coach Amanda Simoncic and principal Mary Feagan.

Brown placed third in this year’s Western Highlands Conference meet in the shot put and fifth in discus. She qualified for the state 2A/1A indoor championships in the shot put and finished 10th at the state meet.

Brown said she expects to compete in those events as well as javelin and hammer throw at Western. She is Polk County’s second Division I track signee this spring, joining Sean Doyle, who signed with Appalachian State.
