Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC) will welcome the first USHJA International Hunter Derby of the season to the venue Friday, May 20, beginning at 7 p.m. in the George H. Morris Arena. The class will feature many of the top hunter combinations in the world, showcasing two rounds of competition underneath the lights in an exciting atmosphere.
The foothills region of the Carolinas is recognized and well known for a longstanding commitment to tradition within the hunter discipline, making the sport an important piece of the accumulating history surrounding TIEC. In 2015, Kelley Farmer of Wellington, Fla., and Mindful, owned by Kensel, LLC, took top honors in the first USHJA International Hunter Derby ever hosted at the facility.
TIEC will feature a second major hunter derby on Friday, June 10, welcoming a $50,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby presented by Mirimichi Green at 7 p.m. The evening will honor legendary show hunter and three time USHJA International Hunter Derby Champion Brunello, as owners Liza Boyd, Janet Peterson, and groom Alberto Ramirez, will be presented with the first Brunello Breyer® model figure before the start of the class.
Hunter competition will continue at TIEC for the remainder of the Tryon Spring Series, as well as throughout Tryon Summer Series, as the facility will offer a combination of Premier AA, A, and B show ratings.
