Protect Lake Lure circulates a protest petition against the development plans for The Lodge at Lake Lure

A protest petition against the development proposal by Tryon Equestrian Partners for the expansion of The Lodge at Lake Lure is now being circulated by members of Protect Lake Lure.

Protect Lake Lure (PLL) leadership remains optimistic that common ground can be found between homeowners/residents and the development company, but as a result of the affirmative votes by town officials at the meetings last Tuesday, Dec. 1 which will allow extensive zoning variances for this project, PLL feels that they have no choice but to resist the proposal for zoning variance in its entirety.

Many local homeowners and residents found the affirmative vote by town officials disconcerting, given the level of concern about this proposal that had been expressed to town officials by their constituency. Homeowners on Lake Lure continue to express legitimate concerns about the scale and scope of this project in a residential neighborhood. Although the developer has made some concessions, this project still raises serious concerns about many issues, including traffic congestion, parking issues, noise, light pollution, and on-the-lake structures. The requests for lake structures would require numerous variances to the lake structures regulations, which in total have never been considered in the past. PLL asks the developer to follow current zoning and lake structure regulations which have been in place for decades and have well served all of the interests of the Lake Lure community.

PLL encourages all citizens of Lake Lure to express their views to town officials over the next few days, as well as to plan to attend the meeting scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 15 at 6 p.m. at Lake Lure Town Hall and express their opinion there as well. Lake Lure town officials are:

Mayor Bob Keith, mayor@townoflakelure.com; Council Member John Moore, jwmoore329@bellsouth.net; Council Member Mary Ann Silvey, maryann470@att.net;
Council Member Steve Webber, ustabearmy@aol.com; Council Member Bob Cameron, lakelureelectric@bellsouth.net; Town Manager Chris Braund, TownMgr@TownofLakeLure.com.
