Bright’s Creek asked for development agreement adjustment
Bright’s Creek has asked Polk County for adjustments to its development agreement. Commissioners met Oct. 19 and approved the adjustments that includes adjusting the schedule for development.
Tryon to be gifted parcel
Tryon Town Council plans to accept a gift of land acquisition on Cleveland Road from Barbara Fox. Fox has offered to gift the parcel to the town that would allow Tryon to widen the road in the curve. Council met Oct. 20 and gave town staff direction to draw up a deed with the town planning to approve it in November.
TEDx gives presentation to Tryon Council
Tryon Town Council heard a presentation during its Oct. 20 meeting regarding the TEDxTryon event held in town last month. The event was sold out in 72 hours and had 12 speakers and five performers. All the speeches from Tryon are now on the TEDx channel and website. Tryon was one of 40 TEDx events that day and was one of the smallest.
Film festival drew 800 over two-days
Tryon Town Council heard from Lavin Cuddihee during its Oct. 20 meeting that there were 800 attendees to the Tryon International Film Festival over a two-day period despite rains. Cuddihee said the first international film festival included close to 65 percent of attendees from out of town. The festival screened 51 films in two days with Cuddihee saying they look forward to presenting another festival in 2016.
Gary speaks to Tryon Council
Tryon Town Council heard from resident Karandal Gary on Oct. 20 who said he had some concerns from the eastside community. Gary said he wanted to introduce himself and let council know he will be attending meetings in the future. He said he wished council would put forth the same amount of concern and energy to eastside concerns as they do about signs and other issues discussed last week. Commissioner Bill Ingham said there is also an eastside citizens advisory committee where residents can also air their concerns. Commissioner George Baker said he holds “Corner the Commissioner” every Monday before the monthly meeting for residents to speak to him about issues as well. Gary said he is the uncle of Trey Miller, who died in a fire in August. Gary said there’s been a lot of bickering, saying “it’s not us against the town. We were just expressing some concerns.”
Polk BOC cancels Nov. 2 meeting
The Polk County Board of Commissioners regular meeting scheduled for Monday, Nov. 2 has been cancelled. The county sent notice this week but gave no reasons for the cancellation. The next meeting for county commissioners is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 16.
