Polk County has been chosen as one of 10 locations in North Carolina to host the first North Carolina TEA Party Constitutional Caucus. The event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 17 at the historic Polk County Courthouse. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. and the caucus will begin at 10 a.m. All legal residents of North Carolina are invited to attend. A photo ID with a verifiable address will be required to participate.

The mission of the caucus is to find one United States presidential grassroots candidate who embraces limited government, individual rights, fiscal responsibility, and free markets, and who will represent the citizens of North Carolina and not special interests.

Participants will have an opportunity to nominate the presidential candidate of their choice with a three-minute speech. Each nomination must have a second. All participants will have a one-time opportunity to speak for or against a candidate with a one-minute speech.

Following the nomination process, all participants will be invited to circulate to the specified areas of the room designated for the nominated candidates. There, people can speak for or against that particular candidate.

At the end of the 30-minute caucus session, the voting will begin. The votes will be tallied for each candidate and sent to the central office in Asheville, along with the other nine North Carolina locations, to determine the presidential candidate who will receive the official TEA Party endorsement for North Carolina.
