Last week, Landrum’s varsity football players learned that they can make up ground against a good football team, though the Cardinals fell just short against Carolina Academy. This Friday evening, when the Cardinals travel to Liberty, another regional (conference) rival, they hope to put all their skills and knowledge together against the Red Devils.

Landrum is 2-2 overall, and 0-1 in regional (conference) play, while Liberty is 1-3, and 0-1, respectively.

“They’re a good ball team,” Cardinals’ head coach Jason Farmer noted of Liberty. “They have two (or more) good running backs,” in Cole (Kris) Murphy (#4), Tyler Renaud (#22) and Eddy Mathis (#24).

Farmer said that since the Red Devils don’t rely heavily on the pass, his defenders will have to stop the ground game.

“We have to focus on that (the run),” Farmer observed. “We need to play a lot better. We will. Carolina came in and made more plays than we did.”

“We’re okay emotionally,” after last week’s Carolina Academy game, Farmer pointed out.

“We’re going to hang in there,” Farmer noted of a Landrum team that is very young, but quickly gaining experience.

Opening kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Liberty.
