An open letter to Tryon residents

To the editor:

Don’t give up now.

It was with some disappointment that I sat in the Tryon City Council meeting with only a handful of Tryon citizens when Duke Energy presented their “Modernization Plan” for WNC. I don’t know if the reason for such a small crowd was because Tryon doesn’t care about the unnecessary project that will deface a portion of Polk County with enormous towers on a clear cut path through our mountains, or build an unnecessarily large gas plant in Asheville, or endanger the sensitive environment, and lower property values. I hope not.

I choose to think, instead, that maybe the folks of Tryon just don’t think they can do anything to stop this.

But that is not the case. If you continue to write letters to the NC Public Utilities Commission and the Public Staff of the Utilities Commission, you can join the large group of people who are continuing the fight. Duke can be stopped. It has happened before.

Write a letter to express your opposition to the project. Don’t give up. Dare to protect your land.
