A fire on Wednesday, July 22, burned 90 percent of the interior of a mobile home in Sunny View.
Local fire departments were dispatched at 2:45 p.m. last Wednesday to a structure fire at 107 Wolfe Branch Dr. in the Sunny View community.
Units arrived to find a single-wide mobile home with heavy smoke and fire showing, according to Polk County Emergency Service Director Bobby Arledge.
“Initial crews performed an interior attack on the fire and were able to knock it down and contain the fire,” Arledge said.
Additional crews arrived and assisted with extinguishing the fire, but 90 percent of the home’s interior was destroyed.
Arledge said firefighters were able to salvage some of the occupants’ belongings. The fire was controlled in approximately 20 minutes upon arriving at the scene.
The fire departments of Sunny View, Mill Spring, Columbus and Lake Lure responded with assistance from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the Polk County Emergency Management/Fire Marshal, the Polk County EMS and the Polk County Rescue Squad.
EMS checked one occupant for smoke inhalation and one firefighter was treated on scene for heat related issues.
“Both were treated and released on scene,” Arledge said. “No other injuries were reported.
After an investigation by the Polk County Fire Marshal and members of the Sunny view and Lake Lure Fire Departments, the cause of the fire was determined to be from an over loaded extension cord in the living room of the mobile home, according to Arledge.
The Red Cross was called to assist the two occupants of the home.
