Rotary Club of Tryon holds awards, officer installation event

Major Donor Presentation
Jerry and Joyce Atkins were honored recently by the Rotary Club of Tryon as major donors to the Rotary Foundation. District Governor Elect Billi Black of Franklin, N.C. presented the award on behalf of Rotary International. These major donors have contributed $10,000 to the permanent fund and interest from this endowment is used for humanitarian projects around the world.
At the annual installation event held by the Rotary Club of Tryon, Stacey Lindsay, left, was honored as the Joseph Wells Rotarian of the Year. She was selected by a group of former presidents of the Rotary Club of Tryon for her outstanding service to our Foothills area and for leading the club in successful fundraising efforts. Joseph Wells of the Rotary Club of Tryon was elected to be the District 7670 Governor for 1972-73. Since 1974 the outstanding Rotarian of the Tryon Club has been recognized and his/her name engraved on the Joseph Wells trophy. Lindsay is pictured with Glenn LeFeber.
New president of Rotary Club of Tryon installed
On June 26, 2015, at Sunnydale in Tryon, Jim Wright was installed as president of the Rotary Club of Tryon for Rotary year 2015-2016. Wright succeeds Judy Lair as president of the club that was organized in 1927. The Rotary Club of Tryon is involved in service projects locally and internationally and its members are part of the 1.2 million Rotarians around the world. This active club grants more than $60,000 each year through its club foundation. Local projects, such as scholarships to graduating high school seniors, funds for Reading is Fundamental at Polk Central Elementary and Tryon Elementary, student exchange program to Pirmasens, Germany, and Rotary Youth Leadership Award, a week-long leadership camp for students at Brevard College, are funded. Through the Gift of Life Program, the club grants funds for expensive medical care and dental needs of children in our area. The club supports international projects such as Polio Plus that strive to eradicate polio and also provide sustainable clean water systems to communities in developing countries.
