William Thomas Davin

William Thomas Davin, age 86, of Tryon, N.C., died on Dec. 16, 2014.
He was born Nov. 24, 1928 of the late William A. Davin, a medical student, and the late Margaret Lucille Davin, nee Darling, in Cincinnati, Ohio. His childhood was spent in Hamilton, Ohio. He attended St. Vincent’s Prep School in Latrobe, Pa. and entered Miami University in 1945 where he met his future wife of more than 65 years, Anne E. Ferguson. He was active in Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, entered medical school in 1948 and was a member of Alpha Kappa Kappa Medical Fraternity. After graduating from the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine in 1952, he moved to Illinois and, in 1953, went into general practice in Glen Ellyn.
After two years (1954-56) in the 11th and 82nd Airborne as a “jumping” doctor, he returned to join the Franklin Park Industrial Clinic in the practice of occupational medicine and surgery. He remained as owner and medical director for 35 years. Upon retirement, they moved to the Landings in Savannah, Ga. for nine years. In 1993, they purchased property and built their home in Red Fox Country Club. He is survived by his loving wife, Anne; sons William T. Davin, Jr. (Donna Carol) of Rome, Ga., Bradley F. Davin (Rhonda) of Salem, S.C. and Jeffrey S. Davin (Rosa) of West Chester, Ohio; and a sister Mary Lu Nickels of Chicago, Ill. There are five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Bill had multiple avocations: golfer (member for 20 years at Glen Oak CC, Glen Ellyn, Ill., nine years at the Landings Club, Skidaway Island, Savannah, Ga., and 20 years at Red Fox CC); woodturning (member and a board director of Carolina Mountain Woodturners, Asheville, N.C., 13 years); scuba diver since 1955; and an avid fisherman from Costa Rica to northern Manitoba. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19, 2014 at Jacksons Grove United Methodist Church, 2811 North Pacolet Road, Landrum, S.C. 29356.
