Paula Nelson Russell, age 58, of Avery County, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loved ones on Monday, Nov. 10, 2014.

Born Feb. 24, 1956, she was a loving wife, compassionate mother, strong yet tenderhearted sister and the best friend anyone could ever ask for. She is survived by her husband, Bobby Russell of 39 years; three sons, Eric, Josh and Brad Russell; her sweet grandson Dryver Russell; her two sisters Sylvia Birchfield and Brenda Buchanan; and her brother Chester Nelson.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Bruce Nelson and mother and father, Alta Mae Nelson and Bruce Nelson Sr.

She will live on through our thoughts and memories, through her beautiful gardens and through all the lives she has touched. She lived her life by these words: “God first, others second, yourself last.”

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014 at 2014 John Shehan Road in Mill spring at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, 130 Forest Glen Drive, Columbus N.C. 28722.
