When the Polk County Wolverines travel to Bakersville Friday to play Mitchell in theWestern Highlands Conference football, Polk will be lookingat a better team than the one the Wolverines upended, 62-7,last year.
Currently, the Mountaineers are 4-2 overall, and 0-1 in conference play, dropping a 28-18 contest to Owen last Friday.
“They’re improved, and their record shows it,” observedWolverine head coach JamieThompson. Polk is 5-2 overall,2-0 in WHC competition, and eager to make that 3-0 on Friday.
Thompson noted of the Mountaineers, “They’re big upfront. They go after it.”
Meanwhile, Wolverine fans surely know that this year’s team possesses a special combination of talent, all pointed in the same direction.
“It’s been a team effort,”reflected Thompson, who noted that in each game, a different player stands out. All Wolverine players come into the game healthy, except Tyler Jackson, who is still out with an injury.
As usual, opening kickoff isset for 7:30.
