Tryon Concert Association presents Gabriela Montero Sept. 30

Pianist Gabriela Montero opens the Sixtieth season of the Tryon Concert Association on Tuesday, Sept. 30, at 8 p.m. at the Tryon Fine Arts Center. In addition, all season subscribers are invited to attend a Gala Celebration with wine and refreshments preceding the concert, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the lobby and under tents in front of the Tryon Fine Arts Center.
Ms. Montero will present a program of Schubert and Schumann to be followed by improvisations on the keyboard using suggestions from the audience. Her unique talent for improvisation has been heard at performances across the nation and beyond. She has been recognized on CBS’ 60 Minutes and interviewed on NPR. She has performed with such musicians as John Williams, Itzhak Perlman, Yo-Yo Ma and Anthony McGill. In 2009, Ms. Montero performed at the inauguration of President Barack Obama. Awards and recordings, including Grammy nominations, have been numerous and CDs will be available at the concert.
