When Landrum hosts Liberty in high school football this Friday, high on the Cardinals’ list of challenges will be to keep possession of the football.
Last Friday, Anthony Anderson’s four-touchdown performance was overshadowed by seven Cardinal turnovers, as Carolina Academy topped Landrum (now 1-3), 50-34.
Cardinal quarterback Jacob Corn hit Anderson with three TD passes, with Anderson adding another score as he took a Carolina kickoff and sprinted all the way downfield. Anderson finished the night with 156 receiving yards.
“We’re still playing hard,” emphasized Landrum coach Jason Farmer. “We have to stop beating ourselves.”
Erase the second quarter, and it would have been a different game. After the first quarter, Landrum trailed by only 13-6, but the half-time break showed Carolina ahead, 35-13.
Liberty runs a double-wing off-set offense. Farmer noted that the Red Devils’s skill set is similar to Landrum’s. Liberty comes into Friday’s contest 2-2-1, after dropping a 35-7 game to Powdersville. Farmer continued to praise Corn, whom he sees as a team leader. “You really find out who your leaders are, when you lose three in a row,” Farmer noted. Jacob’s come to the top. He threw three touchdown passes.”
Opening kickoff for this conference game is set for 7:30 at Cardinal Stadium. Each team is 0-1 in region competition.
