E. Norman Peterson, Jr., 82 years old, of 351 Hwy. 11, Landrum, S.C. died Aug. 28, 2014 at Summit Hills, Spartanburg, S.C. after a long illness.
Born Nov. 13, 1931 to E. Norman Peterson and Helen C. Peterson of New Rochelle, NY, he graduated in l949 from Millbrook School, Millbrook, NY and Middlebury College, Middlebury, Vt. in l953. Norman served his country as a Naval Aviator for 4 years. He completed a study in Investment Banking in l964 at the Wharton School of Finance & Commerce.
He was a member of Biltmore Forest Country Club, Asheville, N.C.; The Cliffs Valley Country Club, Travelers Rest, S.C.; The Kittansett Club, Marion, Mass. and The Duxbury Yacht Club, Duxbury, Mass. as Commodore in l989-l990.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Janet Perdun Peterson; sons Michael H. Peterson of Battleground, Wash. and Christian Norman Peterson of Freeport, Maine; Daughters Karen Peterson Symons of Grand Bay, Ala. and Brenda Peterson Shotts of Fairplay, Colo. In addition, he is survived by his sister Joyce Thurmer of Boulder, Colo. and eight grandchildren: Cameron and Hayden McConnell, Kathleen and Wilson Symons all of Grand Bay, Ala; Tia, Lucy and Pearl Peterson of Freeport, Maine; Leif Nygren of Fairplay, Colo.; Danielle Peterson, daughter-in-law; Ralph Symons, son-in-law.
He was predeceased by grandson Michael Christian Peterson who died in June of 2009. Memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept0 20, 2014 in St. Paul The Apostle Catholic Church, 290 East Main St., Spartanburg, S.C. with Rev. Timothy M. Gahan officiating. The family will receive friends following the service from noon to 3 p.m. Sept0 20, 2014 at the Marriott Hotel, 299 North Church Street, Spartanburg, S.C.
