The Town of Tryon closed Jervey Road last week after a sinkhole near Trade Street was discovered last Friday.
Town crews were expected to examine the area on Tuesday to determine what happened and how to repair it.
The town will either do repairs with its own crews or contract the work out, according to town manager Joey Davis.
Traffic along Jervey Road past the Schwartz building is urged to go to Lakeshore Drive, then to Caledonia then to Jervey Road to access their properties.
The area blocked off includes a portion of the road on the right that is sagging. Davis said it could be a pipe that has come apart underneath, such as occurred along Palmer Street downtown earlier this year.
