Kyle Grant Benkert

Kyle Grant Benkert, 83, a resident of Palatine, Ill. since 1990 passed away peacefully on Monday, July 21, 2014 at his home.

The visitation for Mr. Kyle Grant Benkert was held on Friday, July 25, 2014 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas of Villanova Catholic Church, 1201 E. Anderson Drive, Palatine, Ill. Interment followed at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Northbrook, Ill.

Kyle was born on June 17, 1931 in Chicago, Ill the son of the late Ernst August and Helen (nee Limerick) Benkert.

Kyle was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard. With a Bachelors’ degree in Architecture from Harvard and Master’s degrees in Architecture and City Planning from the University of Penn.

Kyle went on to become an AIA-NCARB registered Architect in Illinois, Wisconsin, North Carolina and South Carolina. He was the architect, designer and land planner for over 16 residential communities and over 1000 occupied homes.

Among Kyle’s accomplishments are Morgan Chapel Village, Columbus, N.C., 55 homes PUD 1974-1978; Liberty Square, Spartanburg, S.C. 40 TH’s PUD 1980-1983; The Cannon House restoration, Spartanburg, S.C., Lake Hinsdale Village (Willowbrook, Ill.) and several other town home communities.

Kyle’s father, Ernst August was the architect and builder of two of Tryon’s historical buildings, The Tryon Fine Arts Center and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Kyle and his wife resided in Columbus with their children from 1974-1987.

He was the beloved husband of Adrienne (nee Hurley) Benkert; loving father of Joan (Brent) Mitchell, John (Betty), Mark (Christina) Benkert, Helen (Jeffrey) Sobel and David (Beth) Benkert; cherished grandfather of 10; great grandfather of 9; preceded in death by his brother Ernst Benkert.
