Over 25 years ago the Landrum Library held its first children’s patriotic parade walking around the library building. Starting a tradition not only for the library but also for many local families.
Moving to its current library location the parade route grew to a walk to Brookwood Park.  Escorted by Landrum Police Dept. July 3, 2014 over 125 children and older folks again made memories.
Decked out in Red, White and Blue, participating for their traditional march, three generations, were Great Grandmother SylviaBecknell, Grandmother Phyllis Burns and Grandchildren Beck and Ella Burns. Leaving the festivities last year Beck Burns fell off his decorated bike receiving a serious knee injury and has the scars to prove it.  Didn’t stop this family’s tradition of marching in the parade.
Library teenage volunteers helped with organizing the participants and making sure every one got their slice of watermelon.  Two of these teenagers Faith Barnwell and Madison Finucan walked in the parade as small children.
Visiting every year, from Ashland, Mass. twins, William and Ellen Child celebrate their Fourth of July birthday with the parade. Their Aunt Beth Child says, “This year William and Ellen are celebrating their seventh birthday being in the parade is a family tradition.”
Landrum Library Supervisor, Lee Morgan says, “Children love a parade, getting so excited, feeling so grown up when it’s their parade.”
