Summer Series of Pity Parties for Foothills Humane Society
Published 10:00 pm Sunday, June 22, 2014
On May 31 Vera’s of Landrum hosted an afternoon event for Foothills Humane Society (FHS). It was called a Pity Party to feature the Pit Bulls and Pit Bull mixes currently residing at the FHS shelter. The breed is also known as American Staffordshire Terrier. The intent of the event was for the public to interact with this breed. FHS volunteers were assigned Pit Bulls for the day to walk around and introduce them while enjoying lunch and a shady tree. Additionally all of the dogs are available for adoption, so there were other volunteers on duty to complete the adoption application for forever homes.
For more than 100 years, American Staffordshire Terriers or Pit Bulls were “America’s Dog” and were considered the perfect “Nanny Dog” for children because of their friendly nature, loyalty and stability. Many folks do not know the breed well and have many misunderstandings about them. Pit Bulls are intelligent, very responsive to training. and eager to please. Socialization, training and loving care ensure a wonderful family dog. 86.8 percent of Pit Bulls pass their temperament tests. They rank number four out of the
122 breeds tested; this is better than Collies, Golden Retrievers and Beagles.
The event was a great success, and more are planned. The next date is set for Saturday, June 28. The volunteers and dogs will be at the location from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Please join FHS and Vera’s of Landrum for an afternoon of fun and education. Vera’s of Landrum is located at 409 N Howard Ave. which is on Hwy 176 between Tryon and Landrum. You may call them at 864-457-3694 for more information about the upcoming event.
