James Marvin Arledge
James Marvin Arledge, was born to Harley & Mattie Arledge of Mill Spring, N.C. on April 6, 1927. He left us to be with them in Heaven on June 17, 2014.
Marvin resided in Green Creek, N.C. with his wife Dora of 60 years. Marvin and Dora have a daughter Vicki and a granddaughter Harley. He also leaves behind his Brother Ralph & sisters, Evelyn & Nan.
Marvin was ever ready to serve his community, always available to help out anyone in need, and never met a stranger. He was an original member of the Polk County Rescue Squad & served continuously. Marvin recently received 50 years of recognition awards from the County Squad & the state of N.C.
Marvin was a member of Green Creek First Baptist Church. He was instrumental in converting Green Creek elementary school into The Green Creek Family Life Center, with one of the buildings named in his honor.
He worked for Milliken at Hatch Mill. Marvin was the director of the ambulance service at St Luke’s Hospital in the 70’s. He then became the director of the Polk County Board of Transportation, where he retired.
Marvin was a generous friend, a Church Stewart, a U.S. Army Veteran, a loving husband and a wonderful father and grandfather, brother and uncle. He will be sorely missed by all the lives he touched.
Services to celebrate his life will be held at Green Creek First Baptist Church on Friday, June 20, 2014. The family will receive friends at 11 a.m. – 12 noon and the service will begin at 12:30 p.m.
