EMS for Children Day is Wednesday, May 21 nationally with the Polk County Board of Commissioners also making the designation for Polk County.
In North Carolina alone approximately 200 children die from accidental deaths each year, and more than 45,000 visits are made with a doctor because of an injury from an accident.
Polk County EMS has organized and would like to encourage community members to attend a special event structured around many areas of health and safety that affect the children of Polk County.
Numerous organizations including EMS, the Polk County School system, Polk County fire departments, several law enforcement agencies, the Regional One helicopter, Polk County 911 dispatchers, NC Safe Kids and the Polk County Health Department will be at the event to provide fun activities and information to help keep children of Polk County safe and healthy.
The event will be from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at Bi-Lo in Columbus. Children are encouraged to bring along a favorite teddy bear or stuffed animal to the event.
Activities at the event will include a tour of Polk County’s new ambulances, a smoke house with fire safety, car seat installation and checks and many more.
Prizes and contests will be available at the event for children of all ages to participate in, including a chance for children to attend an ice cream social at Polk County EMS on Friday, May 23.
