2014 Lanier Library Poetry Festival

North Carolina high school first-place winner Gina Atkins of Providence High School, Charlotte.
The festival, based at Tryon’s Lanier Library, featured workshops and readings by poets George Bilgere, Cathy Smith Bowers, Phebe Davidson, Elizabeth Cox, Kathy Ackerman, Rhett Iseman Trull, Malaika King Aalbrecht, Mark Doty, and current North Carolina poet Laureate Joseph Bathanti.
Events were held at the library, the Depot, Melrose Inn and the Holy Cross Church.

Saturday’s Lanier Library Poetry Festival included among its guests, Cleveland-based poet George Bilgere, who recited some his work, and also led a workshop, “Writing Your Way Into the Poem,” held at the nearby Melrose Inn. Bilgere has appeared on “A Prairie Home Companion,” where he has recited his work.
