The results are in for the indoor JOAD (Junior Olympic Archery Development) Nationals and the US Indoor Nationals, and the Green Creek Archery club did very well.
At the indoor JOAD Nationals, the Green Creek Archery Club had three archers compete. Rachel Roberson competed in the female recurve 11-12 year old division and placed 40th in the United States. Rick Burney competed in the male compound 13-14 year old division and ranked 26th. Phil Burney is in the male recurve 13-14 year old division and only 12 people in the country out scored him.
At the US Indoor Nationals, coaches Jim Vennera and Steve Burney competed, as well as Phil and Rick Burney. Coach Vennera came in 23rd in the nation in the male recurve masters 60+ division, and Steve Burney placed 75th in the male senior recurve division, which includes many of the current and former members of the US Olympic team. Rick Burney came in 32nd and Phil Burney shot exceptionally well to rank 15th in theri divisions.
It was a great indoor season for the club, and they are all practicing for the outdoor competitions this summer. The club members have a good time practicing, even those that don’t choose to participate in the tournaments, and the club is always open to new members. The JOAD club is for kids from 8-20 years old and meets from 7-8 p.m. on Thursdays on the ball field at the Green Creek Community Center. Adults are welcome and encouraged to attend, too, and are invited to shoot on Tuesday evenings from 7-8 p.m.
