Spring is here in Polk County. With it begins the start of a new Tailgate Market season in Columbus. Saturday, April 12, vendors will arrive at the Courthouse Square in Columbus eager to greet their customers for the first time this season.
“The market is always a great place to be on a Saturday,” says vendor Leslie Richardson of Richardson Poultry. “Everyone comes excited about local food.”
Customers will find fresh greens, such as spinach and lettuce, as well as eggs, pork sausage, onions, bee products, coffee, breads, pastries and more at the inaugural tailgate market.
The local farmers and crafters are hoping for a better season than last year, when rain disrupted many of the planned market activities.
“Bad years happen, but we are teaching customers how to preserve their food, to work with the weather and the seasons,” says Market manager Alex Rike. “We are planning many events throughout the season both in Tryon and Columbus.”
The Columbus Farmers’ Market Saturday hours are 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. starting April 12, and the Thursday Tryon market begins May 1 with new hours of 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.
