Cynthia Milligan, Licensed Acupuncturist of “To the Point Healthcare” recently participated in the CranioSacral Therapy workshop offered by Upledger Institute International, an Innovative Organization that offers continuing education courses to healthcare professionals worldwide.
CrainalSacral Therapy is used to detect and correct imbalances in the craniosacral system, which may be the cause of sensory, motor or neurological dysfunction.
The craniosacral system consists of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surrounds and protects the brain and spinal cord. It extends from the bones of the skull, face and mouth – which make up the cranium – down to the sacrum or tailbone area. CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on approach that releases tensions deep in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction and improve whole-body health and performance.
Using a soft touch which is generally no greater than 5 grams – about the weight of a nickel – practitioners release restrictions in the soft tissues that surround the central nervous system.
Ms Milligan will be using these techniques in her practice to better help her clients reach their health and wellness goals. The therapy has been successfully used to treat headaches, neck and back pain, TMJ, chronic fatigue, motor coordination difficulties, eye problems and central nervous system disorders.
