For more than 34 years the Walker Foundation has worked to increase the public’s awareness while raising funds to help support the programs and services provided to children served by the South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind (SCSDB). Since 1849, SCSDB has provided academic and enrichment programs for children from all over South Carolina who are challenged with a visual and/or hearing impairment. Students at SCSDB have the opportunity to learn and grow just like any other student. Through specialized trained teachers coupled with specialized equipment, students excel in reading, writing, math and science while participating in job skills training including welding, woodworking, cooking, photography, retail management and much more. Additionally, students have the opportunity to participate in many athletic sports including football, basketball and track along with participating in the school choir and performance groups. SCSDB is an accredited educational institution that works to serve as the leader for educating children that are deaf, blind and multi-disabled.
