When Priscilla Yeager was conducting her first meeting as president of the Daffy-Jills Garden Club, she was startled to learn she had become the next item of business.

Indeed, all other club business ceased while Yeager was presented with a framed certificate noting her induction into the Second Wind Hall of Fame, an organization which provides recognition for retirees 60 years and over for outstanding service to others and to their community.

Priscilla and Ken Yeager moved to Polk County in June 2006, and in short order Priscilla began to develop ties within her new community. She sang with the Community Chorus, volunteered as program chair for the American Association of University Women and the Daffy-Jills Garden Club, became membership chair of The Western N.C. Weaving Guild and served on the board of the Friends of the Polk County Library.

At the Congregational Church of Tryon, Yeager chaired the board of Outreach and initiated “Feed-a-Family,” a program, which delivered food packages to 50 families throughout the summer.

Her current volunteer endeavors include the Polk County Community Foundation scholar-ship committee; the board of the Tryon Concert Association; and the New Century Scholars, an ICC Foundation initiative which targets rising seventh grade students at Polk County Middle School, mentors them through high school graduation and ensures their access to college.

Before moving to Polk County, Yeager was a special education teacher and high school guidance counselor in Centerville, Ohio. The Yeagers have three children: Timothy Yeager in Denver, Colo.; Peter Yeager in Lisbon, Portugal; and Sarah Yeager Prouty in Wil- mette, Ill.
