Billy Joe Sherlin

Billy Joe Sherlin, 73, of Landrum, departed earth Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at Spartanburg Regional Hospital to go be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Born June 16, 1940, in Buncombe County, Asheville, N.C., he was the son of the late Paul Edwin Sherlin, Sr. and Margorie Sherlin.

A watchmaker and jeweler for 53 plus years, he graduated from Spencer School of Watchmaking and later received his Masters from the Chicago School of Watchmaking in Elgin, Ill.
After graduation, he worked for Bright’s Jewelers in Asheville, N.C., where he met the love of his life, Betty. They were married July 2, 1960.

They later moved to the foothills community where he open Bill’s Jeweler’s, which he owned and operated in Tryon since 1971. He treasured the many friends that he made over the 43 years of service to Tryon and the surrounding area.

He loved the outdoors and was an avid gardener.

He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church in Landrum.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Betty Sherlin; sons, Randall and Keith Sherlin; daughter-in-law Jodi Sherlin; grandchildren, Patricia and Randall Sherlin, Jr.; and siblings, Paul Sherlin, George Sherlin, Pauline Sherlin, Betty Sherlin, Margie Sherlin, Joanne Sherlin and Patsy Sherlin.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2014 at Petty Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014 at Fairview Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Chuck Mullinax. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
