Faulkner faces charges of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle

A Polk County man has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle following an accident where he fled the scene and was negotiated out of the woods by Polk County Sheriff Donald Hill.
Travis Thomas Faulkner, 29, of 224 Ruby Road, Tryon was originally charged by the N.C. Highway Patrol with leaving the scene of an accident and driving while license revoked following the accident that occurred on Jan. 13, according to Polk County Sheriff’s Office reports.
Officers found Darryl Faulkner with head injuries as a result of being thrown from the bed of a 1998 Dodge truck Travis Faulkner was driving, according to a news release sent by the sheriff’s office.
Darryl Faulkner, 48, of 710 Mountain Range Road, Mill Spring, was transported to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, where on Jan. 15 he died as a result of his injuries.
Travis Faulkner was additionally charged with misdemeanor death by a motor vehicle following the death of Darryl Faulkner.
Following the Jan. 13 accident, Travis Faulkner fled the scene, according to the sheriff’s office, with an approximate hour-long manhunt pursuing.
“During the search Sheriff Donald Hill, who was on scene, contacted Travis Faulkner by phone and negotiated his surrender,” said the news release. “The search lasted around an hour, before Travis exited the woods near the residence and was taken into custody by Sheriff Hill.”
Travis Faulkner is being held at the Transylvania County Jail.
