The Polk County Board of Commissioners presented the Patriots Salute to Veterans Association with a resolution on Monday, Jan. 6 for sponsoring the 2013 Veterans Day parade in Columbus.
The resolution states Nov. 11 has been set aside by the U.S. Congress so the nation can honor and pay tribute to all the men and women who have served the nation in the armed forces.
The Patriots Salute to Veterans Association sponsored the first local parade, which took place on Nov. 11, 2013 in Columbus to recognize all veterans of Polk County, Landrum and other nearby communities.
“Whereas, the Veterans Day parade included representations from all four branches of the United States Armed Forces, as well as local fire departments, civic organizations and businesses; and whereas, the Veterans Day parade-well attended by both citizens of Polk County and many who traveled to Columbus from out of town-was a marvelous success,” states the county’s resolution. “Now, therefore be it resolved that the Polk County Board of Commissioners do hereby commend the members of the Patriots Salute to Veterans Association for their outstanding efforts in organizing the 2013 Veterans Day parade.”
