Emma Cato

Born in Polk County, she was a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Nurse Corp during WWII, working in the ETO 96 General Hospital from 1941-1945. Cato was the last descendant of the Camp family from White Oak Plantation.

Surviving are her husband, Tam Cato Sr., one son, Tam Cato Jr. and his wife Lenita, two grandchildren, Bonnie Cato and Tam Cato III, all of Gainesville.

The family had a private family interment in Sandy Plains ARP Church on Jan. 9, 2009.

McFarland Funeral Chapel of Tryon is in charge of local arrangements.
