Gilbert Stanley

Born in Elizabeth, N.J., he was the son of the late Gilbert and Susan Chapman Stanley. He graduated from Somerville High School, Academy of Aeronautics in N.J., and the Army Security Agency School.&bsp; Mr. Stanley received his doctorate from Trinity Lutheran University in Dallas, Texas. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Helen Runge Stanley; one son, Bryan Douglas Stanley and wife Suzanne of Florida; one daughter, Lynn Zolin and husband George of New Jersey, two brothers, Al Stanley of New Jersey and George Stanley of Rhinelander, Wisc.; four grandchildren, Sarah, Alison, Amanda, and Connor. He was preceded in death by three brothers, David, William, and James Stanley and two sisters, Melissa Stanley and Susan Carraza.
Funeral services were held at
3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, 2008 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, with Rev. Dean Elliot officiating.
Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2008 in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, N.C.
