Tena Greene and Tryon Little Theater are proud to announce the formation of the Foothills Children’s Chorus.
Greene, a native of Polk County, possesses a passion for music. She has a masters of music in voice performance from Converse College, is an avid performer of musical theater, opera oratorio and recital, and is also a voice teacher and technician. Grateful to have received support and encouragement from the local community to reach her goals, she is now excited to give area children an opportunity to sing and realize their potential.
Through the generosity of the Polk County Community Foundation and a newly created free community events grant, Greene will spearhead the first Foothills Children’s Chorus.
The chorus will give area youngsters, aged 8 – 13, the chance to engage in music through the summer, learn the foundations of singing and most of all, have fun collaborating with their peers.
The end goal is a children’s community concert on Sept. 10, as a salute to America for Labor Day. After that, work starts on Christmas music for another concert in early December.
“Singing is a joy for me, and if any child out there has a passion to sing, or wishes they could learn to sing, I hope to bring them some joy of their own. Singing is a great confidence and character builder, and even more so when you’re part of a group that supports one another,” says Greene. “I know that summer schedules can be busy, and some won’t be able to come to every rehearsal, but that’s fine. Everyone is welcome to attend as often as they can make it. We’ll have fun and share our talent with the community.”
Rehearsals start Monday, June 24 at Sunnydale, 334 South Trade Street in Tryon (next door to the Dollar General store) from 7 – 8 p.m., and are free. For further information, call 828-894-4121.
