Saluda wants to restart joint town/county meetings

• Saluda City Council expressed its desire to restart joint meetings with the towns of Tryon and Columbus and Polk County. Saluda met April 8 and said besides joint water discussions, they’d like to see signage and economic development on the agenda. The four governments had planned to meet recently but had no agenda items to discuss.

Saluda considers exempting gardening, landscaping from land disturbing ordinance

• Saluda City Council on April 8 approved sending an amendment to its land disturbing ordinance to exempt activities such as gardening and landscaping. Saluda Mayor Fred Baisdent said some issues have come up following the adoption of the ordinance in September 2012. Commissioner Lynn Cass also said she was cited and told council to donate the fine she paid to the artillery proposed to be placed in Saluda.

Green River Games needs volunteers

• Saluda City Council announced during its April 8 meeting that the upcoming Green River Games, to be held in Saluda in September needs volunteers. Any who volunteers will receive a $10 per hour volunteering of credit at the Mass General Store.

Saluda approves resolution in support of county tag office

• Saluda commissioners on April 8 approved a resolution in support of a tag office located in Polk County. The Polk County Board of Commissioners also approved a resolution earlier this month. Commissioners hope to have a tag office located in the current Polk County Early College, with the school board recently purchasing a building to renovate and move the school closer to the high school.
