Mary Lane

Born in Essex Junction, Vt., she was the daughter of the late Robert and Esther Blakey Desso. She was the wife of 49 years of Robert Dustin Lane, who predeceased her in 1996. They resided in Williston, Vt., for 43 years. She retired from the Medical Center Hospital in Vermont in 1982, where she was employed in the human resources department. Mrs. Lane was a 55 year member of First Congregational Church in Burlington, Vt. She volunteered in the Possibility Shop at the church for many years.
Since moving to N.C., she became an associate member of the Congregational Church of Tryon. She was a volunteer for the &dquo;Keeping America Warm&dquo; program through the American Red Cross and was a volunteer for the Linus Blanket Project of Hendersonville. She bowled with the Red Fox Bowling League and was a member of the Tryon Health & Fitness Club.
Surviving are a daughter, Nancy Lane Harris and her husband Alan of Inman; a brother, Richard Desso of Colbert, Ga. Also surviving are two grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday,
Sept. 11, 2008 in the Oak Hill Dining Room of White Oak Terrace, Tryon.
