Possibly still recovering from the last second win versus Avery, the Wolverines fell behind 10 points in the first quarter and were down 43 -27 at the half against Owen.

Outscoring Owen 46- 41 in the second half made the game closer but Owen’s balanced scoring was too much for the Wolverines to overcome, losing 84 -73.

In most high school basketball games it is rare to have more than three players score in double figures. There are usually a couple key players that account for most of the points. Often the opposing team will work to “shut down” or limit those keys players scoring.

The Owen Warhorses placed six players in double figures Friday night. They only have two players that normally score in double figures for the year. Owen also shot 47 percent on the night and 50 percent from the 3-point line, which are both above average percentages.

In talking with the coaches, it seemed to have been “one of those nights” where Owen hit everything they shot and got every loose ball.

“We missed some big opportunities in the first quarter to build a lead, we missed a lot of easy shots and Owen capitalized,” said Coach Josh McEntire. “For the rest of the game we trailed by double figures and never could get over the hump. Owen played great team basketball and really shared the basketball well.”
