Tryon Arts and Crafts School presents Mary Lou Diekmann as the instructor of a new Thursday and Friday afternoon wheel throwing class. In Diekmanns class, the students will learn how to efficiently center and throw pots; a skill students will learn quickly.

They will also learn how to add embellishments, such as clay carving, pulling handles and making covers, to add flair and uniqueness to their pieces. In the 1-3 p.m. Thursday class, students will throw new pieces, while on Fridays from 1-2 p.m., they will concentrate on trimming, decorating and assembly.

Diekmann has been a professional artist most of her life, beginning with painting murals on musicians’ vans while in college. She has achieved recognition and commercial success with her pottery, painting, and sculptural jewelry. From 1974 to 1981 she worked at Scituate Potters, a large east coast pottery business that produced one of a kind art pottery as well as production pieces for the commercial market. While there Diekmann was master potter in charge of all design as well as training production personnel in wheel throwing.

Tryon Arts and Crafts School is located at 373 Harmon Field Rd. in Tryon.
