Nestled in the majestic foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains is a 46-acre park known as Harmon Field.

With the mountains as a backdrop and the Pacolet River running through the park, its beauty is a given. But more than just a pretty face, this park has something for everyone to enjoy. Young, old and all those in between come to Tryon to partake of its beauty and activities.

The park provides four horse rings, 140 stalls, baseball and soccer fields, tennis and basketball courts, horseshoes, a fenced-in playground for the little ones, horseshoes, tetherball, walking trails, shelters, grills, a community garden, a concession stand and even the Tryon Arts and Crafts facility, where classes are offered year round.

Harmon Field is also the home of the Blue Ridge BBQ & Music Festival. In its 18th year, this famous festival brings cookers from around the country to compete for the claim of having the best barbecue in North Carolina. If you like barbecue, Harmon Field is the place to be this Friday and Saturday.

Open from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily, rain or shine, you’ll want to come prepared to stay as event planners have two days of great food, fun and entertainment planned for you.

I’ve seen lots of parks over the years and I have to say that Harmon Field is a true gem in this community.
